Hong Kong Dragon shines bright at OzAsia Festival
HKETO is proud to once again be part of the OzAsia Festival from 17 October to 2 November, bringing Hong Kong's creativity to Adelaide through this leading international arts festival in Australia. ...HKETO presented a 40-metre-long Hong Kong Dragon Lantern as a major highlight at the Moon Lantern Trail, showcasing Hong Kong's unique position as a cultural bridge between East and West, while honouring the growing creative collaboration between Hong Kong and Australia. Speaking at the OzAsia Festival Opening Night, the Director of HKETO Sydney, Mr Ricky Chong, said that HKETO has long supported initiatives that advance Hong Kong's role as an East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange under the National 14th Five-Year Plan. He also introduced the key measures announced in "The Chief Executive's 2025 Policy Address" for integrated development of culture, sports and tourism, generating fresh economic momentum and further enhancing Hong Kong's global appeal.
Mr Chong also introduced to the guests the major infrastructure projects including the West Kowloon Cultural District and the Kai Tak Sports Park and the upcoming mega events. With direct flights between Adelaide and Hong Kong soon to resume, there is no better time to experience Hong Kong's vibrant energy and cultural dynamism.
HKETO also supported Hong Kong musicians Ms Anna Lo and Mr Rick Lau to stage the "LauZone" performance at the OzAsia Festival. The cabaret combined original music, multiple languages and dialects, and humour to tell light-hearted stories about Hong Kong. The performance captivated the audience and received an overwhelmingly warm response.








HKETO Sydney Strengthens Connections with Brisbane
The Director of HKETO Sydney, Mr Ricky Chong, visited Brisbane on 13 and 14 October. ...
Mr Chong attended the opening ceremony of the Innovation and Tech Show Brisbane 2025 organised by the Queensland Chapter of the Hong Kong Australia Business Association (HKABA), alongside distinguished guests including Dr Ruan Zongze, Chinese Consul General in Brisbane and Ms Julie-Ann Campbell MP.
Speaking at the event, Mr Chong highlighted Hong Kong’s commitment to innovation and technology development, as outlined in the 2025 Policy Address, which focuses on advancing key industries such as AI and data science, fintech, life and health technology, autonomous vehicles, green technology, and the low-altitude economy. He also emphasised the Government’s ongoing efforts to enhance intellectual property protection and trading systems, safeguarding and rewarding creativity.
Mr Chong further discussed the accelerated development of the Northern Metropolis and the introduction of preferential policy packages to attract enterprises and support new industrialisation in areas such as aircraft recycling and new energy. Drawing parallels between Brisbane’s transformation ahead of the 2032 Olympic Games and Hong Kong’s preparations to co-host the National Games of China, he remarked that both cities are leveraging major sporting events as catalysts for long-term growth and global engagement.
During the 2025 Business Awards Gala Dinner organised by the Queensland Chapter of the HKABA, Mr Chong was joined by Trade Minister Ros Bates, Senator Paul Scarr and Deputy Chinese Consul-General Yang Chenqi, among others.
Addressing the guests, he highlighted Hong Kong’s strong foundations as a leading financial and innovation hub, noting its ranking as the world’s freest economy and third globally in competitiveness. He also pointed out that the Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Guangzhou cluster has been recognised as the world’s leading innovation cluster, reflecting the region’s growing global influence.
Mr Chong outlined the bold strategies set out in the 2025 Policy Address to strengthen Hong Kong’s role as an international hub for business, trade, and innovation, and as a gateway connecting Australian businesses with opportunities across Asia. Mr Chong encouraged Australian companies to explore collaboration opportunities with Hong Kong and reaffirmed that HKETO, HKTDC and Invest Hong Kong are ready to support enterprises to explore opportunities, build partnerships, and succeed in the region.
During his visit, Mr Chong also connected/ reconnected with important counterparts including Trudy McGowan, DFAT State Director, Gerard Robb, CEO of ACBC Queensland and Tong Xin-miao, CCCA Brisbane President.








Hong Kong and Victoria toast to growing food and wine collaboration
The Director of HKETO Sydney, Mr Ricky Chong, attended the Food and Wine Appreciation Dinner hosted by the Hong Kong Australia Business Association (Victoria Chapter) in Melbourne on 11 October. ...He was joined by other VIPs including Lord Mayor of Melbourne Nicholas Reece, Chinese Consul Chi Jiechao, HKABA National President Ivan Lam and Director of HKTDC in Australia Bonnie Shek.
In his remarks, Mr Chong highlighted the strong and growing trade and cultural ties between Hong Kong and Victoria, particularly in the food and beverage sector. He commended Victoria’s renowned wine regions for their world-class wines that enjoy great popularity among Hong Kong consumers. He also noted the increasing presence of Hong Kong’s own food and beverage products in Australia, reflecting a vibrant two-way exchange.
Mr Chong also took the opportunity to introduce the new initiatives from the 2025 Policy Address, including the “Food from Hong Kong” campaign to promote culinary innovation and tourism. The policies reinforce Hong Kong’s position as an international dining destination that welcomes global visitors, products, and innovation.







HKETO Sydney promotes Hong Kong as IP trading hub
The Director of HKETO Sydney, Mr Ricky Chong, attended the “Hong Kong: IP-Based Financing Hub” Seminar in Melbourne on 9 October, ...co-hosted by HKETO Sydney, Hong Kong Trade Development Council and Davies Collison Cave.
In his remarks, Mr Chong highlighted Hong Kong’s unique position as a regional hub for IP trading, supported by a robust legal framework, strong professional services, and vibrant creative and technology ecosystems.
He noted that Hong Kong’s world-class IP regime enables companies to transform creativity into valuable global assets and makes Hong Kong a trusted platform for IP trading, licensing, financing and innovation partnerships across the region.
He also introduced the relevant new initiatives outlined in the 2025 Policy Address, including the launch of an IP Financing Sandbox to facilitate loans backed by IP assets, and a pilot subsidy programme to help SMEs obtain IP valuation reports.


HKETO Sydney promotes liquor trade and tourism in Sydney
The Director of HKETO Sydney, Mr Ricky Chong, attended the Food and Whisky event hosted by the Hong Kong Australia Business Association (New South Wales Chapter) in Sydney on 26 September. ...
The organiser invited Bill Lark, founder of Lark Distillery and widely known as the “Godfather of Australian whisky”, to share his inspiring journey in whisky making. The guests also enjoyed a guided tasting of Lark whiskies paired with Chinese dishes, as Bill shared his insights into the art of whisky pairing.
Speaking at the event, Mr Chong shared the encouraging results since the reduction of import duty on liquor in last October, with imports surged by over 20% in volume and nearly 90% in value. He also highlighted the new initiatives in the 2025 Policy Address to make Hong Kong more attractive for visitors, including mega-events, eco-tours, cruises, immersive local experiences, as well as the yacht economy.



Deputy Director of HKETO Sydney attended Tourism Seminar 2025 hosted by the Hong Kong New Zealand Business Association
The Deputy Director of HKETO Sydney, Mr Timothy Chau, attended the Tourism Seminar 2025 hosted by the Hong Kong New Zealand Business Association on 25 September in Auckland. ...Mr Chau highlighted to the attendees the latest Policy Address initiatives, emphasising the Government’s commitment to advancing the integrated development of culture, sports and tourism, generating fresh economic momentum and raising Hong Kong's global appeal. He said that under a new “Tourism Is Everywhere” framework, the government plans to infuse tourism into diverse sectors through initiatives such as developing yacht economy and cruise tourism, staging large-scale “Mega events + Tourism,” and positioning Hong Kong as the most sought-after destination for premium visitors. Mr Chau also shared with the audience that Hong Kong will continue to organise various flagship events, and fully support the staging of international mega events such as LIV Golf, and the city is committed to promoting in-depth tourism experiences that showcase its unique vibrancy.



AO Recruitment Talk 2025
HKETO organised two AO recruitment talks for Hong Kong students in Australia and New Zealand at Hong Kong House on 23 September and another webinar on 24 September, ...targeting Hong Kong students in Sydney and other states of Australia and New Zealand respectively. The Deputy Director of HKETO Sydney, Mr Timothy Chau, gave an overview on the career opportunities within the Hong Kong civil service, with a particular focus on the Administrative Officer Grade and the latest recruitment exercise, as well as the Administrative Service Internship Programme. He encouraged students to consider returning to Hong Kong upon graduation to take advantage of the city’s dynamic and diverse professional landscape.


Strengthening ties in Adelaide: business, culture and education
The Director of HKETO Sydney, Mr Ricky Chong, visited Adelaide from 4 to 6 September, engaging with the city’s business, academic, and cultural communities. . ...At the South Australia Chapter of the Hong Kong Australia Business Association Business Awards Gala Dinner, he highlighted Hong Kong’s role as a “super-connector” and new opportunities arising from the resumption of direct flights between Hong Kong and Adelaide and liquor duty reduction. He also met with Ms Kate Gould, CEO of Adelaide Festival Centre, to strengthen collaboration through OzAsia Festival and introduce the Hong Kong Performing Arts Expo 2026, and with Ms Victoria Bick of the University of Adelaide to explore closer ties in education and research. In addition, he attended State Opera South Australia’s production of The Magic Flute, a collaboration between Hong Kong, Australia and Mainland China, showcasing Hong Kong’s vibrant role in international cultural exchange.
HKETO Sydney engages students at 20th Chunhui Cup Melbourne Qualifier

Director of HKETO Sydney attended ACSA 30th Anniversary Celebration Dinner
The Director of HKETO Sydney, Mr Ricky Chong, attended the Australian Chinese Soccer Association (ACSA) 30th Anniversary Celebration Dinner in Sydney on 30 August. ...The event marked three decades of ACSA’s community impact, growing from a shared passion for football into an organisation that competes internationally with remarkable achievements.
In his remarks, Mr Chong congratulated ACSA on reaching such a significant milestone. He also highlighted to the guests the HKSAR Government’s commitment to positioning Hong Kong as a hub for international cultural exchange and major sports events. In particular, the upcoming National Games of China in coming November, co-hosted by Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, provides a good reason for sports lovers to visit Hong Kong.




SCED concludes his visit to New Zealand and Australia
The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Algernon Yau, concluded his visit to New Zealand and Australia on 16 August after a series of engagements to strengthen economic and cultural ties. ...On 14 August, Mr Yau attended the “Cultural Exchange Concert – The Power of Chinese and Western Strings”, and delivered remarks at the pre-performance reception. He highlighted the long history of cultural exchange between Hong Kong and Australia in the arts, sports, education, and cuisine, citing recent examples such as the Hong Kong Sevens at the new Kai Tak Stadium.
On 15 August, Mr Yau, together with the Director of HKETO, Mr Ricky Chong, attended the New South Wales Chapter of the Hong Kong Australia Business Association Business Awards Gala Dinner. Mr Yau highlighted in his keynote speech the significant trade, investment, cultural and people-to-people ties between Hong Kong and Australia, and Hong Kong’s role as a strategic bridge between Mainland China, the Greater Bay Area, and the Asia-Pacific.
During his stay in Sydney, Mr Yau also attended a number of activities and meetings to brief interlocutors on Hong Kong’s latest developments and opportunities, and explore ways to further deepen our bilateral relationships. These included meeting with Minister for Better Regulation and Fair Trading, Minister for Industry and Trade, Minister for Innovation, Science and Technology, Minister for Building, Minister for Corrections of New South Wales, The Hon. Anoulack Chanthivong MP; courtesy call on the Consul General of the PRC in Sydney, Mr Wang Yu; meeting with Australian Distillers Association; and visit to a start-up hub.
Mr Yau’s visit has strengthened mutual understanding and laid a solid foundation for future collaboration between Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand.













Reception in Sydney marks 30th anniversary of HKETO
HKETO hosted a reception in Sydney on 13 August to celebrate its 30th anniversary. ...The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Algernon Yau, attended as the keynote speaker, highlighting HKETO’s pivotal role since 1995 in fostering communication and collaboration between Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand. Mr Yau noted the post-pandemic rebound in tourism and connectivity, reaffirmed shared commitments to free trade and innovation, and outlined Hong Kong’s latest competitiveness measures, including the Top Talent Pass Scheme and the recent reduction of duty rate on liquor to promote the liquor trade and high value added industries.
Addressing over 300 guests, the Director of the HKETO Sydney, Mr Ricky Chong underscored the longstanding ties between Hong Kong and Australia, and reaffirmed Hong Kong’s commitment, under the National 14th Five-Year Plan, to developing as an East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange and strengthening its role as Asia’s events capital.












SCED and Director of HKETO Sydney attended Hong Kong Dinner in Auckland
The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Algernon Yau, arrived in Auckland on 12 August and attended the Hong Kong Dinner co-hosted by HKETO and the Hong Kong New Zealand Business Association (HKNZBA) to celebrate the long-standing trade and cultural ties between Hong Kong and New Zealand. ...
In his special remarks, Mr Yau highlighted the significance of the Hong Kong-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement, which has boosted trade, investment, and people-to-people links between the two economies. He also stressed that Hong Kong is ready to join RCEP, emphasising its benefits for regional trade, supply chains, and SMEs, and pointed out the new opportunities for New Zealand's premium beverages following the city's recent liquor duty cut.
At his welcome remarks, the Director of HKETO, Mr Ricky Chong, noted Hong Kong's vibrant Kiwi community and its role as a trusted base for New Zealand companies expanding into Mainland China and Asia, particularly the Greater Bay Area.
Earlier that day, Mr Yau and Mr Chong also met with the New Zealand China Council and the Auckland Business Chamber and had a lunch meeting with New Zealand Winegrowers to exchange views on promoting closer business collaboration between Hong Kong and New Zealand.

SCED begins visit to New Zealand and Australia
The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Algernon Yau, began his visit to New Zealand and Australia on 11 August. ...That evening, Mr Yau and the Director of HKETO, Mr Ricky Chong, attended a business dinner in Wellington co-hosted with BusinessNZ to mark the 30th anniversary of HKETO and the 15th anniversary of the Hong Kong–New Zealand Closer Economic Partnership Agreement. The event brought together senior government officials and business leaders to celebrate the longstanding trade and economic ties between Hong Kong and New Zealand.
In his keynote address, Mr Yau highlighted the close and strong trade and investment ties between Hong Kong and New Zealand, as well as our role as a strategic gateway for New Zealand trade. Mr Yau also highlighted the various exciting opportunities for New Zealand businesses - reduction in import duty on liquor, the Greater Bay Area development and CEPA.
Earlier in the day, Mr Yau, accompanied by Mr Chong, paid a courtesy visit to His Excellency Wang Xiaolong, Ambassador of the PRC to New Zealand, the Cook Islands, and Niue. They then met with Minister of Agriculture, Minister of Forestry, Minister for Trade and Investment and Associate Minister of Foreign Affairs of New Zealand, Mr Todd McClay. Mr Yau reiterated to Minister McClay the importance of a close bilateral trade relationship between Hong Kong and New Zealand, and Hong Kong’s keen interest in joining RCEP. They also met with the Chair of New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, Mr Charles Finny, to brief him on Hong Kong’s latest developments and explore ways to enhance cooperation.
Mr Yau will continue his visit in New Zealand until 13 August.

In his welcome remarks, Mr Chau extended a warm welcome to the visiting startup founders and tech pioneers from Hong Kong, commending them for sharing their insights with the Australian audience. He also reaffirmed the Hong Kong Government’s commitment to fostering cross-border collaboration and promoting Hong Kong as a premier hub for innovation and technology.


HKETO Sydney supports 4U Table Tennis Friendship Tournament

Hong Kong Children’s Choir concludes tour with performances in New Zealand
To celebrate the Hong Kong Children’s Choir (HKCC)’s debut in New Zealand, HKETO Sydney hosted a pre-performance reception in Auckland on 11 July, ...ahead of the Dreams to Dream concert. About 80 guests, including leaders from the local arts and cultural community, gathered to celebrate the power of music and cultural exchange between Hong Kong and New Zealand.
In his address, the Deputy Director of HKETO Sydney, Mr Timothy Chau, thanked HKCC for bringing their voices and artistry to New Zealand, and commended their meaningful engagements across Australia, including their participation as guest choir at the Festival of Voices in Hobart and their charity concert in Sydney in support of CanRevive. Mr Chau noted that HKETO Sydney is proud to support HKCC, as the tour not only showcased the choir’s artistic excellence, but also demonstrated how cultural exchange fosters mutual understanding and goodwill. He reaffirmed Hong Kong’s commitment to nurturing a vibrant cultural environment, supported by sustained investment in world-class cultural infrastructure. In his remarks, Mr Chong highlighted the long-standing partnership between Hong Kong and Victoria. He also shared updates on Hong Kong’s latest developments and outlined the Hong Kong SAR Government’s initiatives to strengthen the city’s role as a global hub for trade, innovation and technology, aviation, and legal services.



HKETO Sydney supports Hong Kong Children’s Choir in promoting cultural exchange across Australia and New Zealand
HKETO Sydney proudly supported the Hong Kong Children’s Choir (HKCC) in presenting a series of performances and cultural exchange programmes across Australia and New Zealand in July. ...The tour aimed to promote Hong Kong’s vibrant arts and culture scene and showcase the artistic excellence of its youth. HKCC began its tour in Hobart, participating as the guest choir at the renowned Festival of Voices from 3 to 7 July. This was followed by a charity concert in Sydney on 9 July in support of CanRevive's cancer support service.
To mark the Sydney leg of the tour, HKETO Sydney hosted a pre-performance reception at Hong Kong House on 9 July. About 100 guests from various sectors, including local arts and cultural community leaders, politicians and business leaders, attended the event. In his welcoming remarks, the Director of HKETO Sydney, Mr Ricky Chong, welcomed HKCC and highlighted the longstanding ties between Hong Kong and Australia. He reaffirmed Hong Kong’s commitment, as the National 14th Five-Year Plan has expressed clear support for Hong Kong to develop into an East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange, to strengthening its role as Asia’s events capital. With the official opening of the state-of-the-art Kai Tak Sports Park, Hong Kong is poised to host a wide range of large-scale international events—from concerts and rugby matches to elite football tournaments.
The HKCC tour will continue in Auckland, New Zealand, with two upcoming performances: the Dreams to Dream concert on 11 July and the Echoes of Culture choral concert on 12 July.









Perth visit sparks new opportunities in trade, talent, and innovation
The Deputy Director of HKETO Sydney, Mr Timothy Chau, visited Perth from 1 to 3 July, engaging in meaningful exchanges with the local business, academic, and startup communities. ...His visit included the Hong Kong & China Market Briefing organised by the Western Australian Chinese Chamber of Commerce, where he highlighted Hong Kong’s unique role within the Greater Bay Area (GBA); a forum at the University of Western Australia promoting career and entrepreneurship opportunities for young professionals; and a startup networking event hosted by Spacecubed to strengthen innovation ties. Speaking at the startup event, Mr Chau emphasised that Hong Kong is not just a destination — it is a gateway. As a leading hub within the GBA, which connects 11 dynamic cities including Shenzhen and Guangzhou, Hong Kong provides access to a consumer base of over 86 million people and a combined GDP of around USD 2 trillion. He encouraged participants to explore how their business ideas could thrive through collaboration with Hong Kong and the wider GBA region. The visit deepened relationships with Western Australian stakeholders and opened new avenues for collaboration in trade, talent development, and innovation.

HKETO celebrates CanRevive’s 30 years of compassion and community support

HKETO welcomes inaugural Hong Kong Airlines flight to Sydney

City University of Hong Kong visited Hong Kong House
HKETO received a student delegation from the Department of Decision Analytics and Operations of City University of Hong Kong on 21 May. ...The study group was briefed by the Deputy Director of HKETO Sydney, Mr Timothy Chau, who provided an overview of HKETO's work, including its recent and upcoming events, as well as its efforts in investment promotion and talent attraction. HKETO Showcases Trade Potential at Tasmania Business Seminar
HKETO Sydney co-hosted a business seminar in Hobart, Australia, on 1 May with the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), Invest Hong Kong (InvestHK) and the Australia China Business Council (Tasmania Chapter) to explore and promote trade and investment opportunities between Hong Kong and Tasmania. ...In his welcome remarks, the Director of HKETO Sydney, Mr Ricky Chong, highlighted Hong Kong’s role as a gateway to Mainland China and Asia, and a global hub for wine and spirits trading. He noted that with Hong Kong’s open market, world-class logistics, and favourable regulatory environment, the city is well positioned to facilitate trade and investment in the wine and spirits sector. The recently reduced duty rate for liquor with an import price above HK$200 (i.e. A$40) from 100% to 10% has created new opportunities for premium alcohol exports from Tasmania.
During his stay in Tasmania, Mr Chong also toured a number of local distilleries to promote liquor trading in Hong Kong and gain deeper insights into the strengths of Tasmania’s alcohol industry.



HKETO supports the 2025 Australian Dragon Boat Championships
HKETO supports the Australian Dragon Boat Championships (AusChamps) held in Penrith from 26 April to 1 May to showcase Hong Kong’s vibrancy and distinctive cultural heritage. ...Organised annually by the Australian Dragon Boat Federation since 1996, the AusChamps has attracted more than 2 500 paddlers from across Australia to compete for national titles. This year's event is extended to six days for the first time, making it the largest edition to date. Two of the 2,000-metre races were named the "HKETO Premier Open Standard" and the "HKETO Premier Open Small Boat", with the Director of the Sydney ETO, Mr Ricky Chong, presenting medals to the winning teams.
Speaking at the Welcome Function, Mr Chong highlighted the deep cultural roots of dragon boat racing in Hong Kong and the city’s ongoing efforts to promote sports tourism. He also outlined major upcoming international events to be hosted at the new Kai Tak Sports Park, including the Volleyball Nations League in June, the Hong Kong Football Festival in July and the Ultimate Tennis Showdown (UTS) Hong Kong in October. Mr Chong reaffirmed HKETO’s commitment to supporting dragon boat events in Australia, reflecting the enduring ties and strong community spirit between Hong Kong and Australia.

HKETO proudly supported the Sing Fai Cantonese Opera Promotion Association in staging two performances of "Sing Fai Sydney Cultural Exchange: Advancing the Cantonese Opera Heritage" in Sydney on Good Friday (18 April) to showcase the charm of Cantonese opera to Australian audiences, ...with a view to promoting cultural exchange between Hong Kong and Australia. The performances featured over 20 Hong Kong young performers, and their excellent skills and passion for Cantonese opera left a lasting impression on the 700 audience. In her welcoming remarks, the Head of Public Relations of HKETO Sydney, Ms Jane Liu, said that the Government attaches great importance to the development of Cantonese opera and has all along been providing active support to the transmission, study, promotion and continuous development of Cantonese opera. She also highlighted Hong Kong's role as an East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange under the National 14th Five-Year Plan, and added that the Government will continue to make every effort to establish world-class cultural facilities and a pluralistic cultural environment.

The Director of HKETO Sydney, Mr Ricky Chong, attended a preview of Happy Birthday 2U2, an exhibition by Hong Kong-based Japanese artist and architect Hikoko Ito, at the Art Gallery of New South Wales in Sydney on 14 March 2025. ...
Happy Birthday 2U2 is an interactive installation featuring 366 artistic motifs inspired by the Chinese character for "happiness". The exhibition also includes over 6,000 hand-drawn birthday cards from Hong Kong students, fostering cultural exchange between Hong Kong and Australia.
Mr Chong welcomed Hikoko Ito to Sydney and expressed his delight in seeing Hong Kong artists showcase their talents and artworks to local audiences in Australia. He reiterated the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government’s commitment to supporting artists and arts groups in showcasing their work internationally, further strengthening Hong Kong’s position as a vibrant hub for East-meets-West cultural exchange.
The Happy Birthday 2U2 exhibition will be held at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Naala Nura Building until 17 August 2025. Visitors are invited to take part in a unique experience—receiving a birthday wish inside a handmade card, crafted by someone who shares their birthday but whom they’ve never met.



Reception held in Auckland to celebrate the Year of the Snake
HKETO Sydney hosted a reception in Auckland, New Zealand on 25 February to celebrate the Year of the Snake, welcoming over 150 guests from various sectors. ...Addressing the reception, the Director of HKETO Sydney, Mr Ricky Chong, said that Hong Kong is investing heavily to enhance its world-class infrastructure, and the new Kai Tak Sports Park is a prime example that will firmly put Hong Kong on the map as a global hub for major international sports and entertainment events. Mr Chong added that the world's famous Hong Kong Sevens will be held at the new Kai Tak Stadium from 28 to 30 March. He also noted that New Zealand won both the men's event and women's event last year, seizing their 13th and 12th titles in Hong Kong respectively.

HKETO is supporting contemporary art platform Hong Kong Soul to stage four Hong Kong performance programmes at the Adelaide Fringe from 21 February to 10 March, ...showcasing Hong Kong's unique East-meets-West art culture and the talent of Hong Kong artists. Hong Kong Soul is featuring two indoor programmes at the Adelaide Fringe, namely the award-winning physical theatre performance "No Dragon No Lion" by TS Crew, "Echoes of Silence: A Percussion Multimedia Odyssey" by Toolbox Percussion, as well as street performances by flow artist Lai Yee and freestyle football performer Lyson Sze.
Speaking at the premiere show of "No Dragon No Lion" on 21 February, the Director of HKETO Sydney, Mr Ricky Chong, said that HKETO is pleased to see Hong Kong Soul making its debut at Adelaide Fringe 2025. He added that the Government is committed to developing the arts, culture and creative industries, with substantial resources provided to support arts and cultural groups and artists.

Sydney Lunar New Year Dragon Boat Festival 2025
HKETO showcased Hong Kong's vibrancy at the Sydney Lunar New Year Dragon Boat Festival held at the beautiful Darling Harbour of Sydney from 7 to 9 February! ...Four races were named the "Hong Kong Talent Cup", the "Hong Kong Innovation Cup", the "Hong Kong Future Cup" and the "HKETO Government Industry Challenge" to promote Hong Kong's vibracy. The Hong Kong team won the second place in the Government Industry Challenge! Medals were presented by the Director of the HKETO Sydney, Mr Ricky Chong, who also attended the opening ceremony of the Festival to share the joy with all peddlers, guests and visitors.
HKETO set up a marquee at the venue to promote the latest developments in Hong Kong, in particular the exciting mega events held in the city and various talent attraction initiatives rolled out by the Government. The souvenirs from Hong Kong were very popular and were all gone before closing!
HKETO also displayed Hong Kong-themed banners with new year greetings in major locations across Sydney during the festive period to convey our best wishes to the local community.

More than 4 000 audiences across Australia enjoyed the extraordinary performances of the HKSO.
To welcome the HKSO's maiden tour to Australia, HKETO hosted a reception before the concert at the iconic Sydney Opera House on 2 February. The Director of HKETO Sydney, Mr Ricky Chong, said in his welcoming remarks that the HKSO's performance is a wonderful testament to the strong and enduring ties between Hong Kong and Australia. He also introduced to the guests the Hong Kong Government's vision of developing Hong Kong into a premier tourism destination through innovative thinking.
HKSO's performances in Australia included an exclusive afternoon concert at the Theatrette of the Parliament of New South Wales (NSW) on 3 February. This first-ever collaboration among the Parliament of NSW, the Consulate-General of the People's Republic of China in Sydney and HKETO marked a significant milestone in the cultural exchange between Hong Kong and Australia through the power of music.
