Celebration of 28th anniversary of establishment of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region
1 July 2025 marks the 28th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).  The Chief Executive of HKSAR, Mr John Lee, and senior government officials attended a flag-raising ceremony and a reception to commemorate the occasion.  Speaking at the reception, Mr Lee emphasized that the administration has delivered tangible outcomes across key policy areas, building on Hong Kong’s unique advantages under "one country, two systems." Mr Lee noted the significant accomplishments such as the enactment of Article 23 legislation, which has strengthened Hong Kong’s position as one of the world’s safest cities, now ranked seventh globally in the safety index.  He also outlined progress in addressing housing needs, with public housing wait times reduced and innovative Light Public Housing projects underway.  On economic development, Hong Kong has attracted 84 strategic enterprises from frontier technological industries, bringing in investment amounting to some $50 billion and creating over 20 000 job opportunities.  Looking ahead, Mr Lee emphasised emerging opportunities in the Northern Metropolis development, innovation and technology sectors, and deeper integration with the Greater Bay Area, reinforcing Hong Kong’s role as a super-connector between Mainland China and global markets.  To celebrate the anniversary, the Government and various sectors have rolled out a series of festive offers and events spanning transport, culture, food, and entertainment, encouraging the public to join in the joyful celebrations of Hong Kong’s return to the motherland.

Invest Hong Kong attracts over HK$160 billion in foreign direct investment
Invest Hong Kong (InvestHK) announced that it assisted over 1 300 overseas and Mainland companies in establishing or expanding their businesses in Hong Kong between January 2023 and the first half of 2025.  These ventures attracted over HK$160 billion in foreign direct investment and created more than 19 000 jobs within their first year of operation or expansion, contributing to the local job market and reaffirming Hong Kong’s status as a leading business hub in Asia.  The Director-General of Investment Promotion at InvestHK, Ms Alpha Lau, noted that while external factors such as global geopolitical developments present both challenges and opportunities, Hong Kong remains well-positioned to thrive.  InvestHK will build on this strong momentum to deepen mutual engagement between Hong Kong, the Mainland and overseas markets, with continued focus on strengthening ties with traditional markets such as Europe, North America and North Asia, while actively exploring emerging markets.

HKTE career fairs attract global talent dovetailing Hong Kong's I&T development
Hong Kong Talent Engage (HKTE) organised a series of three online and offline career fairs in July, most notably its virtual fair on 10 – 11 July, featuring 47 leading companies, aimed at attracting global innovation and technology (I&T) talent.  These fairs generated nearly 33 000 visits from candidates across 14 countries and regions, yielded over 3 000 CV submissions, and enabled almost 5 000 one-on-one meetings between applicants and employers.  Nearly 90% of participating organisations expressed satisfaction with the events and indicated interest in future collaborations.  In addition, HKTE co‑hosted major in‑person events including the Hong Kong International Talents Career Expo 2025 and NovaX Global Investmatch Carnival 2025.  By continuing to launch targeted initiatives, HKTE is further reinforcing Hong Kong’s status as a leading global hub for high-calibre I&T professionals.

Hong Kong bursts with energy in July through sports, culture and citywide celebrations
July in Hong Kong was a vibrant celebration of culture, sports, and community spirit.  The city hosted three major international sporting events, including the FIBA 3×3 World Tour on 19–20 July, followed by two star-studded football clashes: Liverpool vs.  AC Milan on 26 July and Arsenal vs.  Tottenham on 31 July at Kai Tak Sports Park, bringing world-class live action and electric energy to local fans.  The much-anticipated Hong Kong Book Fair also returned, drawing publishers, authors, and readers together to promote a love of reading.  This year’s theme, "Food Culture • Future Living," featured global authors, cultural activities, and the popular "World of Art and Culture" zone, encouraging the public to explore the world through books.  Adding to the excitement, Ani-Com & Games Hong Kong drew crowds with a five-day celebration of global pop culture, animation, comics, and games.  Running concurrently, the Hong Kong Art Toys Expo showcased an eclectic mix of artist collections and the latest designer toys.  Altogether, July brought Hong Kong’s vibrant pulse to life, onstage, online, and all across the city.

HKETO joins HKABA Victoria Chapter in honouring global business excellence
The Director of HKETO Sydney, Mr Ricky Chong, attended the Business Awards Gala Dinner 2025 hosted by the Victoria Chapter of the Hong Kong Australia Business Association on 10 July in Melbourne.  The event celebrated the achievements of enterprises with strong ties to Victoria, Hong Kong, and Mainland China, and brought together business leaders and innovators to honour excellence in international trade and collaboration.  In his remarks, Mr Chong highlighted the long-standing partnership between Hong Kong and Victoria.  He also shared updates on Hong Kong’s latest developments and outlined the HKSAR Government’s initiatives to strengthen the city’s role as a global hub for trade, I&T, aviation, and legal services.
     
Perth visit sparks new opportunities in trade, talent, and innovation
The Deputy Director of HKETO Sydney, Mr Timothy Chau, visited Perth from 1 to 3 July, engaging in meaningful exchanges with the local business, academic, and startup communities.  His visit included the Hong Kong & China Market Briefing organised by the Western Australian Chinese Chamber of Commerce, where he highlighted Hong Kong’s unique role within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA); a forum at the University of Western Australia promoting career and entrepreneurship opportunities for young professionals; and a startup networking event hosted by Spacecubed to strengthen innovation ties.  Speaking at the startup event, Mr Chau emphasised that Hong Kong is not just a destination, but a gateway.  As a leading hub within the GBA, which connects 11 dynamic cities including Shenzhen and Guangzhou, Hong Kong provides access to a consumer base of over 86 million people and a combined GDP of around USD 2 trillion.  He encouraged participants to explore how their business ideas could thrive through collaboration with Hong Kong and the wider GBA region.  The visit deepened relationships with Western Australian stakeholders and opened new avenues for collaboration in trade, talent development, and innovation.
     
HKETO supports Hong Kong Children’s Choir in promoting cultural exchange across Australia and New Zealand
HKETO Sydney proudly supported the Hong Kong Children’s Choir (HKCC) in presenting a series of performances and cultural exchange programmes across Australia and New Zealand in July, showcasing Hong Kong’s vibrant arts scene and youth talent.  The tour began in Hobart, where HKCC performed as guest choir at the Festival of Voices, followed by a charity concert in Sydney on 9 July in support of CanRevive’s cancer support service.

To mark the Sydney concert, HKETO Sydney hosted a pre-performance reception at Hong Kong House attended by around 100 guests.  Director of HKETO Sydney, Mr Ricky Chong, welcomed HKCC and highlighted the strong ties between Hong Kong and Australia, reaffirming Hong Kong’s role as an East-meets-West cultural hub, backed by major developments such as the Kai Tak Sports Park.

In Auckland, HKETO Sydney hosted another reception on 11 July ahead of HKCC’s debut New Zealand concert.  Deputy Director of HKETO Sydney, Mr Timothy Chau, thanked HKCC for their artistic excellence and meaningful outreach, noting the tour’s role in fostering goodwill and cultural understanding.  He reiterated Hong Kong’s commitment to global cultural exchange and continued collaboration with partners in the region.
