Mediation Week 2026
The Department of Justice launched Mediation Week 2026 on 4 May, a five-day programme held under the theme “Mediate First: An Attempt of Mediation, Harvests Abundant Harmony”. Featuring seminars on disputes involving schools, sports, the elderly and neighbourhoods, the initiative promotes mediation as an effective and amicable means of resolving conflicts. Speaking at the School Mediation Seminar, the flagship event of the week, the Secretary for Justice, Mr Paul Lam, SC, encouraged young people to apply mediation skills to achieve win-win solutions in a peaceful and rational manner, underscoring the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government’s commitment to fostering a culture of mediation from an early age. The programme culminated in the Global Mediation Summit on 8 May, bringing together leading international experts and policymakers to further strengthen Hong Kong’s position as a premier global centre for mediation and dispute resolution.

Global Fast Track 2026 opens for applications
Invest Hong Kong (InvestHK) on 4 May announced that applications are now open for the ninth edition of the Global Fast Track (GFT) 2026, a flexible, hybrid programme supporting technology scale-ups expanding in Hong Kong and Asia. Running until 25 September, this year’s programme introduces an expanded focus covering eight major verticals and introduce a new Online Market Readiness Programme, alongside an upgraded pitching competition. These enhancements provide a platform for innovative technology companies to showcase their solutions, while offering more diverse and flexible pathways to leverage Hong Kong as a launchpad for expansion into Asian and international markets. Since its launch, GFT has supported over 1 000 companies from more than 70 economies, providing meaningful exposure to a regional network of corporates, investors, professional service providers and community partners. Leveraging Hong Kong's strong connectivity with the Chinese Mainland and global markets, the programme further reinforces the city’s role as a two-way hub for investment and innovation, helping global startups enter Asian markets via Hong Kong, while supporting Hong Kong and Chinese Mainland companies in expanding internationally.

International Healthcare Week
Hong Kong’s annual International Healthcare Week once again highlighted the city’s growing role as a global hub for health and medical innovation, bringing together leading policymakers, medical professionals, researchers and industry leaders from around the world. The week featured major events including the Hospital Authority (HA) Convention, the Asia Summit on Global Health (ASGH) and the Hong Kong Medical Forum (HKMF), showcasing Hong Kong’s strengths in healthcare collaboration, medical research and innovation.
Attending the HA Convention on 11 May, the Secretary for Health, Professor Lo Chung-mau, emphasised that Hong Kong will proactively align with the National 15th Five-Year Plan and leverage its unique advantages under “one country, two systems” to develop into an international health and medical innovation hub, with a view to building a “Healthy Hong Kong”.
The two-day ASGH brought together global healthcare leaders to discuss advances in biotechnology, artificial intelligence and healthcare investment. The summit featured more than 90 prominent speakers from 15 countries and regions, including Nobel Prize Laureate in Chemistry, Professor Michael Levitt. Opening the summit, the Chief Executive of HKSAR, Mr John Lee, highlighted Hong Kong’s strategic role within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Government’s continued investment in clinical trials, regulatory reform, and life and health technology development.
Meanwhile, the HKMF attracted more than 2,500 medical experts from across the globe. Speaking at the forum, the Financial Secretary of HKSAR, Mr Paul Chan, underscored Hong Kong’s strengths in intellectual property protection, world-class universities, access to capital and regional connectivity, as well as the city’s ambition to become one of the world’s leading launch pads for new therapies and medical technologies.

Completion of first large-scale transport infrastructure in Northern Metropolis
The commissioning ceremony for the Fanling Bypass (Eastern Section) was held on 2 May, marking the completion of the first large-scale transport infrastructure in the Northern Metropolis. The new bypass provides direct and efficient road connections for the North District. Spanning approximately four kilometres, the dual two-lane carriageway comprises at-grade roads, underpasses and viaducts. The bypass connects the North District to urban areas, enabling motorists to travel between Lung Yeuk Tau, Luen Wo Hui and Fanling Highway without passing through the congested town centres of Sheung Shui and Fanling, saving around 10 minutes during peak hours. The project will also help accommodate future traffic demand from the Fanling North New Development Area, alleviate congestion on existing major roads and enhance the overall efficiency of the district’s road network.

A dynamic May of arts, heritage and creativity in Hong Kong
Hong Kong came alive in May with a spectacular celebration of arts, culture and creativity. The month featured a vibrant line-up of world-class events, including the annual French May Arts Festival with more than 100 programmes spanning visual arts, music, theatre and dance; the Hong Kong Pop Culture Festival; the iconic Cheung Chau Bun Festival; and Hong Kong Comic Con 2026. The Affordable Art Fair Hong Kong 2026 brought together 106 exhibitors from 19 countries and regions, showcasing thousands of paintings, sculptures, photographs and mixed-media works at accessible prices. Museum and exhibition highlights included masterpieces associated with the Mona Lisa, artefacts from the Sui and Tang dynasties, and exceptional jewellery spanning 4,000 years across five continents. Together, these events demonstrated Hong Kong’s unique ability to blend tradition and innovation while offering a dynamic cultural calendar that attracts artists, audiences and visitors from around the world.

Toasting New Opportunities: HKETO Sydney in Tasmania
HKETO Sydney, together with Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and Invest Hong Kong (InvestHK), conducted a visit to Launceston, Tasmania in May to promote Hong Kong as a global hub for wine and spirits trading and business expansion into Asia.
Speaking at the Australia China Business Council (Tasmania) Business Seminar on 6 May, the Director of HKETO Sydney, Mr Ricky Chong, highlighted Hong Kong’s long-standing role as a global wine and spirits trading hub, supported by its open market, strategic location and business-friendly policies. He introduced Hong Kong’s two-tier liquor duty system, which creates fresh opportunities for premium spirits to enter Hong Kong and the wider Asian market. Noting the strong growth in spirits imports and rising demand across Asia for high-quality, story-driven products, he emphasised Hong Kong’s unique role as a gateway for Tasmanian producers to expand their reach and build brand presence in the region.
The seminar also featured insights from partners across Hong Kong and Tasmania. Director of HKTDC in Australia & New Zealand, Ms Bonnie Shek, introduced Hong Kong’s latest trade fairs and exhibitions, including the renowned Wine & Spirits Fair. InvestHK’s Head of Business and Talent Attraction, Mr Max Lau, outlined how Hong Kong supports overseas companies in establishing and expanding their businesses, highlighting its role as an ideal springboard for Tassie companies. A/Director Trade, Development & Marketing, Trade and International Relations of Business and Trade Tasmania, Mr Jordan Szmekura, reaffirmed the State Government’s strong support for wine exports. He also revealed the exciting news that the Premier will lead a business delegation to the Chinese Mainland and Hong Kong this November to foster trade and investment ties between the two places.
Taking this opportunity, the delegation also visited some local wineries and distilleries to learn more about Tasmania’s premium products and exchange views on opportunities for collaboration and market expansion through Hong Kong.

Hong Kong ICH Month 2026 (Hong Kong)
Hong Kong ICH Month 2026, held from 30 May to 30 June under the theme “ICH Around Town”, presents a vibrant array of programmes celebrating Hong Kong’s rich Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH). The month-long event brings traditional culture into everyday urban spaces through exhibitions, performances, demonstrations and interactive experiences across the city. A highlight of this year’s programme is a horse-themed multimedia light show projected onto the exterior wall of the Hong Kong Space Museum, showcasing the historical and cultural significance of horses in Chinese heritage through artefacts, artworks and visual storytelling. Extending beyond the city centre, the event also reaches travellers at Hong Kong International Airport with engaging displays and live demonstrations of the traditional Hong Kong-style milk tea-making technique, offering visitors a taste of the city’s unique cultural traditions.
